Farm Girl
2021 - present
I am a mixed media artist who challenges gender norms through my art practice. Based in Langley, British Columbia, my work blurs the line between what is traditionally considered feminine and masculine. My upbringing on a farm and years of physically demanding farm work have greatly influenced my art, which juxtaposes tools and objects typically associated with men's work, such as hammers, mowers, and shovels, with elements of femininity like glitter, jewels, and the color pink.
My intriguing blend of contrasting stereotypes of gender subverts cultural expectations of men as active and women as passive. My fascination with stereotypically female elements in our culture, such as fashion and fake nails, add a playful and thought-provoking aspect to my sculptures.
The use of sculptural forms challenges established gender norms and highlights the complexities of identity. My work has been exhibited in exhibitions throughout the Lower Mainland in BC and has gained recognition for its unique perspective and message. I hope that through my art, I can inspire others to embrace their true selves and question societal expectations.
